School...the first 5 weeks

Well we are almost through with the first 5 weeks of school and all seems to be going well.

The kids are still acting okay, the teachers seem to be in a better mood, and the administration is new and fresh.

I am excited about football season. Alabama has won the first two games over less talented teams by 8 and 3. This weekend will most likely be more of the same. I hope not, but I have a feeling.

I won my first week of fantasy football thanks to Adam Vinitari and Brian Westbrook, not thanks to Chris Cooley who scored negative points while having Heath Miller and his 87 yarrd TD reception on my bench.

I visited Billy and Beth two weeks ago for the Alabama-Hawaii game and had a great time with them. They are awesome friends to have. Jack makes me laugh. He kind of struts around like Mick Jagger.

Played Pub Trivia on Wednesday at Baker St. We always get between 2-4 questions correctly. It seems that we got 5 right that night and came in a tie for 2nd place. We did pull out the tie breaker by naming 8 of the last 10 best actor Oscar winnners. Not to shabby. We also answered these questions correctly....

Who are the two presidents who died on the same day?
What was the first song sung in space?
How many eyelids does a camel have?
Who is the first character to speak in Star Wars?
?Questions we got wrong....

What % of the worlds mined salt does the U.S. use to de-ice roads each year?
Who was the shortest president?
Who was the sixth Beatle?
A banana isnt a fruit, what is it?

And some other questions that we could not answer.

Well, I guess that is about it.

Leave a comment so I know you were here. My blog is lonely.
Took a quiz I read off MikeRay's blog....it is a question or two too long.

You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.

Preseason USA Today Poll

Week 1 USA Today Poll
1. Ohio State (28) 0-0 1,487
I get this. Losing some skill position players, but should be good.

2. Texas (11) 0-0 1,378
No Way. Texas was VY. They lose 3 games this year. Look up....

3. USC (1) 0-0 1,348
Nope. I know they have the most talent. They have no Bush, white and Leinert? Too high. People will be wanting to beat them before they are good again next year. They lose 3 games.

3. Notre Dame (9) 0-0 1,348
(Sorry MikeRay) My pick to win it all. Its all about the QB and WR.

5. Oklahoma (13) 0-0 1,320
Not so fast my friend. WR playing QB drops them to about 18th.

6. Auburn (1) 0-0 1,206
Will be good. Not this good. Prob still in the SEC title game.

7. West Virginia 0-0 1,202
Maybe the best team in the country. I know, everybody always puts them to high, but I like them this year.

8. Florida 0-0 1,054
Can Leak figure it out? I say no. He gets killed. They still will be good enough to beat Tenn.

9. LSU 0-0 1,037
Saban gone really starts this year and next. I say 3rd in West.

10. Florida State 0-0 874
Amazing talent. Subpar coaching and performances.

11. Miami (FL) 0-0 839
Missing some players against FL St hurts. This is about right.

12. California 0-0 798
Better this year? Good enough to beat USC? I don't know.

13. Louisville 0-0 785
Who is still there?

14. Georgia 0-0 784
Better with no injuries

15. Michigan 0-0 778
Will be better than this. Loss to Oh St. and ND? Anyone else?

16. Virginia Tech 0-0 591
No Vick=Stability?

17. Iowa 0-0 519
Do the TE's still stand? If so, they should be higher.

18. Clemson 0-0 493
Is Bowden on the hot seat this year? If yes, he will go 8-4 with win over papa. If not, 5-7 or 6-6.

19. Penn State 0-0 406
Joe Pa had a great year. They should be okay.

20. Oregon 0-0 373
Who knows?

21. TCU 0-0 270
They will be better than this. But not as good as last year.

22. Nebraska 0-0 261
Really? I hope so. I wish they would go back to old Nebraska football.

23. Tennessee 0-0 216
They will be better than this. Not as good as Florida, but better than this.

24. Alabama 0-0 210
Its all about the QB. If he performs at a high level, we could be good. He he performs like a 1st year starter we will be lucky to be in the top 25.

25. Texas Tech 0-0 198
Who knows? Could be okay if TX is down. OK is down. Maybe Big 12 champs? Only lost to TX, us and OkST last year.

This is all such a crap shoot, but its good fun.

NFL HOF game is Sun night. Oak and Phil. Eagles are favored by 3. O/U is 36.

Day 3

Day 3 is big because it is the first time that all the players left in the event are in the same room, playing on the same day. Also it marks the day that the players will play to the money bubble. 1159 left, 873 will make money.

Players gone on day 3.....
Josh Arieh
Carlos Mortensen
Phil Ivey
Freddy Deeb
Layne Flack

and maybe Johnny Kampis....Cardplayer lists this man going out in the money....

"The following players will receive $16,493 each:

770 - Johnny Kamdis"

So Tuscaloosa Johnny appears to go down. Good Luck in the future Johnny.
Update... it seems that Johnny is gone. There is a pic and MP3 interview with him after he is knocked out. Seems he had KK vs. AA vs. QQ. Hard not to argue with his play. I'm sure he was in a huge pot with no way out.

Players making noise....
Humberto Brenes 440K
David Chiu 650K
Allen Cunningham 285K
Joe Hachem 180K
Hoyt Corkins 165K
Annie Duke 156K

and Daniel Negraneau who faught back from about 20K late in the day to climb back above 100K

Bama Alum doing well in World Series

Johnny Kampis, from U of A, was in school at the same time I was. He has been touring the poker circuit and doing pretty well in the world series. He has about 140,000 going into day 3. He figures he is in the top 150 of 1200 at this point. Good luck to him and Roll Tide.

Day 2B

Benny Binion, Robert Williamson III, Aaron Kanter, Greg Raymer, Robert Varkonyi, Huck Seed are eliminated. Negraneau, Arieh, and Hachem all seem to have good days. So does Deeb.

Varkonyi actually was applauded as he left. Growing respect for the former world champ?

Day 2a

Eliminated....Mike Caro, David Williams, Barry Greenstein, Men Nguyen, John Juanda, David Sklansky, and David "The Devilfish" Ulliot. Ivey was down late, but not out. Annie Duke seemed to be playing well. Day 2b is today. Thurs is a break. Friday starts day 3.

Winner gets 12,000,000.
2nd 6,000,000
3rd 4,000,000

I heard the top 12 would all be millionaires. More than 8,700 people played. Sould be down to about 1,000 or so after today.

Day 1 c and d

Eliminated....Mike Matasow, Jen Harman, Antonio Esfandiari, T.J. Cloutier, Steve Dannemann, Erick Lindgren, Lennox Lewis, Sam Grizzle, Chris Moneymaker, Scott Fischman, Toto Leonidas, Johnny Chan, and Marcel Luske Eliminated By Robert Varkonyi.

Lennox Lewis kept getiing smacked down by Carlos Mortenson's wife. Mike Matasow gets on my nerves. Varkonyi. Maybe he knows what he is doing this year.

Went and played some free Texas Holdem at the Bronx Zoo Monday night. Came in 7th and 2nd. (Too bad there was only 15 people playing.) I was suppossed to be helping Rob load an entertinment center. Oops. I owe them one.

Tuesday I hung out with Rob all day at work and then went to Rio Mambo with his momma for her B-day. (I don't owe him anymore).

After dinner we played through Battlefront 2 on easy and got some killin' done.

Day 1a and 1b casualties

Doyle, Helmuth, Dutch Boyd, Gus Hansen, Michael Mizrachi, Howard Lederer, and Barry Shulman. Out. Ivey doing well, as is David Williams. So my pick, Helmuth is gone. And yes, I did chuckle. Two more days of day 1.

No NEXTEL race this week. Bowyer ran second last night after racing all the way to the checkered. He may have put Hamlin into the wall a bit on the last turn. He at least rubbed him. And rubbin' is racin'.

One week til I go back to school. I will try to do something fun each day this week.

Day 1...Main Event

Today in LV at noon the WSOP Main Event Begins. If I had to pick one player out of the 8000 or so, I take Helmuth. If he wins I look like a genius. When he loses I get to smile.

Thinking about going to see Superman 3D or Clerks 2 this week. Anyone interested? Has anybody sen the new S-Man or Clerks? What did you think?
